This is the New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE)
The NABRE is the official translation of the bishops of the United States. The NAB was first published in 1970. The New Testament and Psalms were updated and published in 1987. The NABRE now has revisions of the Old Testament and further revisions of the Psalms. The NABRE New Testament is the translation used in the readings at Mass.
This Edition accomplishes three major goals of Biblical scholarship:
- A more accurate translation aided by modern archeological and historical discoveries;
- A more consistent rendering of the Greek and Hebrew to more closely express the meaning of the original text;
- Updates to reflect changes in modern English usage of particular words (for example, burnt offering substituted for holocaust)
