Quotation for our Times
“Dear friends, may no adversity paralyze you.
Be afraid neither of the world,
nor of the future,
nor of your weakness.
The Lord has allowed you
to live in this moment of history
so that, by your faith,
his name will continue to resound
throughout the world.”
Pope Benedict XVI

Akita
Subtitle: The Tears and Message of Mary
This is the best source book on the apparition at Akita. After translating the story at the request of the Bishop of Akita, John Haffert said,
"The Bishop wanted this published because its author was an eyewitness to the events which confirm the messages of Our Lady..."
Sometimes God permits Mary to relay a message of vital importance. When Marian apparitions occur and are authenticated by the Catholic Church, as La Salette in 1846, Lourdes in 1858 and Fatima in 1917, they can work as an enhancement to Holy Scripture.
The apparition of Our Lady of Akita began in June, 1973 in a convent outside Akita, Japan. Sister Agnes experienced supernatural events: she saw beings of light adoring the tabernacle; received visions, religious communiques and interior locutions. Church leaders were dubious.
The messages were in keeping with Church teaching and the private writings of Sister Agnes did not reflect mania or psychosis. There were lay people and other religious witnesses to the over 100 documented tears flowing from a wooden statue of Mary. There were also manifestations of sweat and blood. Samples of the tears, sweat and blood were sent to The Faculty of Legal Medicine in Akita. Without knowing the source, the scientists declared that all the fluids were of human origin. The blood was Type B while the sweat and tears were Type AB. The two different DNA structures confounded all those who studied the saturated gauze.
Miracles happened near the statue of the Blessed Virgin. People were returning to the faith and transforming their lives through Jesus Christ. Sick people were being miraculously cured of all sorts of ailments. In 1984 this apparition was approved by the Church.
