“Dear friends, may no adversity paralyze you.
Be afraid neither of the world,
nor of the future,
nor of your weakness.
The Lord has allowed you
to live in this moment of history
so that, by your faith,
his name will continue to resound
throughout the world.”
Pope Benedict XVI

Essential Bible Handbook
The Essential Bible Handbook is a Redemptorist Pastoral Publication intended to help readers understand the place of the Bible in Catholic tradition, the history of the Bible, biblical interpretation, and how to use the Bible in prayer.
Father Thomas Santa reviews the history of the scriptures, and the oral and literary traditions that underpin them. The writing is straightforward and his easy expertise with this subject makes it very reader-friendly. The entire text is indexed to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and an extensive glossary is included.
To facilitate study, he provides summaries of the major themes of each book of the Bible, grounds the sacraments in scripture, and offers helpful prayer techniques -- such as praying with biblical personalities and suggestions for how to approach them.
Other features include an eight day retreat plan and a scriptural rosary.
Here is expert guidance for Catholic studies, a resource for Lectors, and a reference for individuals wanting to deepen their prayer life and faith through Sacred Scripture.
289 pages. Softcover.
