Quotation for our Times
“Dear friends, may no adversity paralyze you.
Be afraid neither of the world,
nor of the future,
nor of your weakness.
The Lord has allowed you
to live in this moment of history
so that, by your faith,
his name will continue to resound
throughout the world.”
Pope Benedict XVI

The Signs of the Times
Subtitle: Understanding the Church Since Vatican II.
Signs of the Times is a compilation of the writings of Father Richard Gilsdorf, seminary professor, parish priest, and scripture scholar. The title comes from columns he wrote for the newspaper of the Diocese of Green Bay. Other Gilsdorf writings, speeches and book reviews are also included here.
The Signs of the Times columns were written during the Pontificate of Paul VI and largely address the errors promulgated in the aftermath of Vatican II. Though Gilsdorf fully supported the Council and its documents, he opposed the spirit of Vatican II.
Signs of the Times provides the history of how certain theology and practices entered the Church. Gilsdorf offers insight into the reasons they came about, their errors, and the harm they cause.
Included are footnotes for context and background on persons and events described, and translations for the Latin phrases scattered throughout.
542 pages. Softcover.
During the six years I served as Bishop of Green Bay, I came to know Father Richard Gilsdorf as a holy priest, a Scripture scholar, teacher, and pastor, as well as a friend and confidant whose opinion and insights I valued. He was faithful and loyal to the teachings of the Church and had a zeal for communicating the faith to others...He stretched my thinking and enlarged my heart; I trust he will do the same for you. Adam Cardinal Maida
